Yes. You Are fat.
This weekend I dragged my twin sister to watch The Devil Wears Prada 2, I did enjoy it but of course nothing compares to the first one. The group meeting scene in the boardroom made me chuckle when Miranda’s first assistant was guiding her in the right (appropriate) language to use when it came to the campaign they were discussing. You can say the typical 2025 body “model” was on display, to which Miranda Priestly stated “these models are body negativity. Oh no, body positivity. But why?”
I do believe this is a big generational difference. Millennials and younger are more open to exploring in different areas of life, free spirited, and less judgmental. Now that social media is full and mostly run by Gen Z everything is out in the open. Very private and personal story times, monetization of everything, and this is my body; like it or not idgaf. All of which has me thinking of funny memes like “can we get to know less of each other” and ” I just opened this app.” But yes, everything is out in the open for views and likes; yet if you don’t like the feedback you shut off your comment sections or turn on filters to only read what you want to read. Feedback that will continue to feed your delusions and give your mediocre lifestyle a gold star. Congratulations fatty you are on the fat train, oops fast train to cancer, diabetes, joint problems, liver and kidney disease to mention a few. But “pop off queen”, “slay”, *finger clap*.
If you made it past that last sentence, thank you for sticking through it. Not only did a lot of the population fall for this “movement” but you were led to believe it would bring confidence. And that was a lie. It just led to more problems, self-destruction, and many a low self-esteem. Just look at the celebrities you idolized for being fat. Oprah has stated Ozempic was “a gift” while lying for years it was Weight Watchers. While others mention how much better they feel and the difference in treatment they receive just by shrinking in size. Because yes it all matters, please stop lying to yourself. Have a vast majority taken this too far? YES! ABSOLUTELY, and it is quite scary actually. The whole body positivity was for sure a more American movement. But thin is in, globally now.
I do bring this whole global point of view to touch on how bad the celebrity influence really is. Our far East Korean friends have gone so far that you can get weight loss medication in under thirty minutes with no lab work, parks have fat size measurement contraptions in playgrounds, and beauty standards require plastic surgery. Also their bluntness would make any American young adult cry but I don’t think this is a topic for this discussion, perhaps another time. But after watching many Youtube videos on the subject the impossible beauty standards are celebrity driven. So much so that a K-Pop singer all though completely anonymous due to the fear of severe backlash said if she wasn’t skinny she wouldn’t have a career, talent is not enough their culture. Do you see America heading in that direction? Definitely drop your thoughts below.
But we have to bring it back home now to Boulder, Colorado aka America’s Skinniest City. With only TWO McDonald’s!!! Crazy! Low obesity rates, the vast majority of the population in shape and a large amount of healthy eating options. But it does have a dark side with Boulder leading in eating disorders across the Country, Red-it posts voicing their concerns about moving there as a heavier person, and the University of Colorado-Boulder reporting triple the national average of eating disorder among women compare to other college campuses. We must find a middle path ladies and gentlemen. This is also not okay. Fuck emotions and feelings hour we are past that I’m too factual and logical for this.
Solutions only!
- Come into full acceptance of your current physical and emotional state. Are you genuinely happy?
- Get off social media ( if you read my last post on Influencer Culture I go into my own personal journey with this topic & confidence)
- Move your body
- See a doctor they will be honest about what is required for a healthy body for YOUR body frame (one size does not fit all)
A little tough love at first yes, but hopefully you got my message. Please let’s do better and improve as a society. We have no other choice.
